Back to School DIY
8:46 PMthe notebooks I made(: |
Monday was my first day of school which meant waking up early and panicking about what to wear. And though going to school isn't my favourite activity, it also brings around some good news: back to school shopping. I'm a sucker for stationary and so I usually go crazy and buy way too many things that I never end up using. This year I decided to save some money by buying cheap notebooks and decorating them myself. Since I really liked how they turned out, and since it's really easy to do, I decided to share this DIY with you.
Hope you enjoy!
Step one: Gather your materials!
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Notebook
- Eraser
- Scissors
- Glue
- Tape or Mod Podge
- Magazines
Step two: Start cutting!
This DIY is basically a collage made out of triangles so the first thing you want to do is decide how big you want your triangles to be. Then go ahead and measure and then cut the first one from the cover of the magazine (I recommend using the cover as this will be your tracing triangle and the cover is sturdier than the pages). Now look through the magazine and choose patterns, colours or images that you like. Place your triangle on the image and trace it with your pencil. Cut it out and repeat this step until you have a good amount of triangles (the number you need varies depending on the size of your notebook and your triangles).
Step three: Organise!
Once you've got all your triangles decide how you want to place them on your notebook before you start glueing them.
This step is pretty self explanatory: glue the triangles in place.
Step five: Finish off!
Cover the notebook with either the tape or the Mod Podge to keep everything in place and make it more resistant.
on this notebook I put the tape on really badly so it kind of ruined it :( |
Optional bonus!
It's also a great idea to decorate the back cover using washi tape. Not to mention that you can use other shapes instead of triangles.
Front cover of a notebook I decorated using the same method only with strips instead of triangles. |
